The best period to do this road trip in Bali is between may and october. It is dry season so the temperatures are nicer, there is less rain and humidity. Ocean’s temperature is perfect all-year long. More information here.
In addition to its gorgeous landscapes, Bali has amazing food ! Here are 3 dishes that you should absolutely try during your road trip. First, Nasi Goreng, made of fried rice, onions, vegetables and chicken topped-off with a fried egg. Then, Mie Goreng, made of the same ingredients as the previous one, but instead of rice it’s delicious noodles. Finally, as a desert you can enjoy Black Rice Pudding, which is black rice mixed up with vanilla, coco milk and palm sugar. May not be the best looking but truly delicious !

Stop 1: Denpasar
What to do in Denpasar?
This city is interesting because of its great location in the south of Bali. You can choose to stay in the city or move around. Complete change assured!
- Stroll in the city market, Pasar Badung, where you will discover new fruits and vegetables. The rest of the day, you can find all the handmade products and other souvenirs to bring back from the trip. It’s the perfect place to start discovering the local culture in this 2-week road trip in Bali.
- To learn about the history of Bali culture, head to Museum Bali near the market.
- The Birds Market, as its name suggests, is a market for birds but also for pets. Take a walk in this typical market.
- Visit the Jagatnatha Temple in the city center.
- To try out the local food, we highly recommend doing a food tour as you discover great hidden place while eating delicious food.
- Try out the “Amsterdam Modern Bakery Restaurant“, a bakery by day, a concert hall by night.
What to do in Denpasar’s surroundings?
- To party, you can not miss the Skygarden in the largest city of Kuta Island at 25 minutes drive. Small peculiarity, the rooftop is reserved for “Westerners”, if you want to party with the Balinese and Javanese, go to the level below…
- 1 hour south, discover Uluwatu nestled on the cliff, famous for its legendary surf spot (high level recommended). A place out of time with incredible temples.
Where to sleep in Denpasar’s surroundings?
- Mid-range: In the middle of the rice fields of Canggu, the Moon Bamboo, which we highly recommend for its breathtaking view, its swimming pool and its excellent shuttle service from the airport. In short, rest, relaxation and change of scenery!

What to do in Ubud?

- In the city center, discover the Saraswati temple and its impressive interior design.
- Go meet your cousins, you know, monkeys! In the Monkey Forest.
- Early bird or night owls head to Ubud‘s market at 4am and get some fresh local products. And we’re not kidding, come that early because after 8:30 am, you won’t find any food but rather handbags and other souvenirs.
- Go see a Balinese dance show in one of the city’s temple.
- Hikers, you’ll love to walk on Campuhan Ridge Walk between hills and rice fields.
- Explore the rice route starting from Ubud and go for a hike : 2 hours in the jungle and rice fields. Enjoy the calm and serenity!

- Art lovers, head to Blanco Renaissance Museum where you will get to admire Antonio Blanco’s artwork. Maybe you’ll also make a friends with a parrot.
- Need to freshen up? Get on a scooter or in a car and head to the Tegenungan waterfall.
- Be sure to check out the Bali Swing. Get on a swing at the top of a hill above the jungle. You’ll get amazing Instagram worthy pictures !
- Get yourself a balinese massage and get all of your stress out!
- Head to the view point of Mount Batur where you’ll get a stunning view and enjoy the hot springs.

Where to sleep in Ubud?

Stop 3: Munduk
What to do in Munduk?
Munduk is a village up in the hills, between jungle and rice fields. It is a very nice stop of this 2-week road trip in Bali.
- Go for a hike in the rice fields and jungle and get to see lakes and waterfalls.
- If you get to Laagan waterfall, save some energy to go up to the Golden Valley Waterfall Side Restaurant and get to taste some fresh local coffee.
- Visit the Ulun Danu temple, the famous temple that you can see on 50 000 roupee bills. You could think this temple is just like the others but the stunning background (mountains) will make you feel completely relaxed.
- Eat at Taman Dewata and taste traditional dishes while enjoying the sunset.
Where to sleep in Munduk?
- Mid-range: To rest after the day’s hikes, the Winaposa and Warung Pudak offers nice rooms with a nice private bathroom. A small Balinese family welcomes you and takes care of you during your stay. The breakfast is included and the restaurant’s cuisine is succulent. The Booking rating speaks for itself!
- High-end: For a 5-star accommodation in the Munduk area, you will have to go a little further to Lovina (which you can reach in about 30 minutes by car) and discover the Villa on Tulip. Stop 4: Batur
What to do in Batur?
Batur is famous for its mountain. You won’t be resting much during this stop! However the landscapes are amongst the most beautiful you will get to see during this 2-week road trip in Bali!
- Wake up around 2am and get to experience an unbelievable moment : climb up Mount Batur.
- Let’s go! Climb up the narrow trails, under the moon and stars.

Stop 5: Amed
What to do in Amed?
Fishermen’s village, unspoiled by mass tourism, Amed will be a relaxing and lovely stop of this 2-week road trip in Bali.
- Rent a scooter and explore Amed and its surroundings easily.
- Haven’t had time to go snorkeling yet? Go to one of the city’s beaches and explore the ocean. You could even come across a Japanese ship wreck.
- Relax on the iconic volcanic black/grey sand, be careful it can be very (very) hot! Remember black absorbs heat.
- Go fishing with the locals and maybe they’ll teach you their know-how.
- Eat some fresh fish, cooked the traditional Balinese way.
- Spend your nights listening to traditional musics with your new friends in the city’s bars and restaurants.
- Taste the traditional rice alcohol, the Arak. We are warning you, it is quite strong! It tastes better in cocktails than alone.
- Get a traditional massage by the ocean.
Where to sleep in Amed?
