What to do in Palma de Mallorca ?

Palma de Mallorca, capital of the island of Mallorca, famous for its clubs and hotels, will enchant you with its narrow streets.

  • Visit Santa Maria de Palma de Mallorca (or La Seu), its magnificent 14th century cathedral, located in the old town, it stands facing the sea.
  • Not far from there is the Almudaina Palace, which will make you to relive a part of Spanish history and its kings. Moreover, this is the official residence for the summer ceremonies of the current King of Spain.
  • Are you art lovers ? The Miró Foundation could seduces you ! Created by the painter himself, you will find many of his works, some sculptures, and you can wander in his workshops.
  • Go back to the old town and lose yourself in its pretty little streets.
  • To eat, you will surely find a restaurant that suits you on Samil street.
  • If you want to swim after a visit of the city, the nearest beach will be Can Pere Antoni. Otherwise, there is the small beach of Caló Fort which offers a view of the bay of Palma in addition to a beautiful turquoise water.
  • For those of you who like to party, 25 minutes by taxi from Palma, you will find The city you need : Magaluf, with its famous BCM Planet Dance club. But beware, do not go until April, otherwise you will not find anyone to spend a good evening with.

Step 2 of the road trip : Sóller

What to do in Sóller ?

Sóller is a good base to discover the western part of the island, but it is also a very pretty city, in which it is good to walk.

  • Lose yourself in the city surrounded by mountains, and go through the beautiful Plaza de la Constitución. Because the city is in the valley of orange trees, do not hesitate to sip an orange juice squeezed in terrace.
  • 6.5 km from there you will find the port of Sóller, which will enchant you with its promenade, its shops, its narrow streets, and especially its three beaches ! Go up to the mirador of Santa Catalina or to the lighthouse, where the view is even more beautiful at sunset.
  • Valldemossa, 27 km from Sóller, is a charming village in which it is pleasant to get lost. So you can walk in the footsteps of Georges Sand and Chopin !
  • The village of Deià, at 13 km, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, offering a superb view of the Mediterranean sea, is worth the detour. Then go through the cala Deià, to swim and relax.
  • 10 km from Sóller, you will find Es Canyeret, beautiful pebble beach, through which you can only access after 300 meters of walking among the trees. Do not worry, you will be rewarded !

What to do in Alcúdia ?

Both full of history and close to beautiful beaches, this city will all seduce you.

  • Walk around and explore the streets of the city.
  • Take a little height walking on the ramparts that surround the city.
  • If you want to eat fresh and local, go to the market of Alcúdia, open Tuesday and Sunday all day. You will also find clothes, accessories…
  • Take time to see the cape of Formentor and its lighthouse, 26 km from Alcúdia. If you look well, you may even see Menorca ! Formentor playa is a good place to relax after walking. For the bravest, there is the Cala Figuera, although a little difficult to access with a small steep path, but it is worth the detour.
  • If you are History and Ancient Rome lovers, make a tour of the Roman ruins of Pollentia.
  • Do you want to get a drink ? Make your way to Puerto Alcúdia, where you will find tapas bars, English pubs…

For the next stop you will take the accessible ferry with your car to Menorca. The duration of the crossing can vary between 1:15 and 1:45. The price is a hundred euros, but the sooner you book, the lower is the price.

What to do in Menorca ?

Former capital of the island, Ciutadella de Menorca and its surrounding beaches will be a beautiful step in your adventure.

  • Start by visiting the city, walking through the alleys and passing through the cathedral.
  • Walking on the harbor, where you will find many restaurants in which you can surely find a local specialties such as lobster, sepia al forn (cuttlefish in the oven), the tumbet (vegetable dish), or for dessert a pastry called “ensaimada”.
  • To enjoy a beautiful view of the port and the sea, go to the Port Mirador.
  • If you want to enjoy the turquoise water in the surroundings of the city, you will find your happiness. The 4 best known beaches are Cala Mitjana, Cala Galdana, Cala Macarelleta and Cala Turqueta.

What to do in Port Mahon ?

Capital of the island, Port Mahon, with its large port, is a beautiful city but also a good base for visiting the eastern part of Menorca.

  • Lose yourself in the city and its alleys, while passing by the plaza constitucion, the church Santa Maria, and the beautiful building of the city hall.
  • Make a tour along the port around which it is very pleasant to walk through.
  • Nature lovers ? Walks and birds, the natural park Albufera des Grau is a must during your stay ! Located 8km north of Port Mahon, it will offer you beautiful landscapes, hiking, the opportunity to see different species of birds… You will also find 2 beautiful beaches : the Cala Presili and Cala Tortuga.
  • Go to see the lighthouse of Favaratix, one of the most beautiful on the island.
  • Looking for a paradise beach ? Go to the Cales Coves, it takes 30 minutes to walk to get there, but it’s really worth it for this beach with turquoise water and surrounded by cliffs !
  • For a drink, we recommend the Café Baixamar or the Akelarre bar, in which tourists and locals mingle.

For your return, we propose you here to take the ferry to Palma de Mallorca to catch the plane, knowing that the ferry ride lasts 5h30. However, other options are available to you : you can take your plane back to the airport of Menorca, 7 minutes by car (4,5km) from Port Mahon ; Or you can take the ferry from Port Mahon to Alcúdia (3h15), then take the road to Alcúdia Palma (50min drive) to take your flight back.
